How Much Does Newborn Photography Cost in Seattle? An Honest Pricing Guide

If you just typed "how much does newborn photography cost in Seattle" into Google, I'm going to guess you're somewhere around 20-30 weeks pregnant, making a list, and trying to figure out where photos fit into your budget before your brain turns into complete newborn fog. So let's just get right into it, no fluff.

My in-home newborn sessions in Seattle are $1,100. Here's exactly what that includes, what drives newborn photography pricing up or down across the city, and how to think about this investment so you don't end up disappointed later.

What $1,100 Actually Gets You

Here's my newborn session breakdown, no surprises:

  • Session length: up to about 1.5 hours in your home, fully baby-led (if baby needs to eat, be changed, or just needs a minute, we wait. Always.)

  • Timing: scheduled within 2-3 weeks of birth, weekdays between 10am-2pm, when baby's typically sleepiest and light is best

  • Deliverables: every edited, high-resolution image from your session, delivered through an online gallery with full printing rights. No nickel-and-diming you for the images you actually want.

  • Sneak peek: a handful of images within a few days, because I know you're not waiting patiently for the full gallery

  • Full gallery delivery: within 2-3 weeks

That's it. No confusing tiered packages, no "unlock more photos for $200." You get everything, because those are the photos of your family, not mine to hold hostage.

Optional add-ons, if you want them:

  • Custom linen layflat album: $500

  • 3 mixtile frames (12x16"): $300

  • Custom mixtile gallery wall: $500

And if you're booking a maternity session too, book that one first at full price, then use code BABYBUNDLE on your newborn booking to save $150.

What Newborn Photography Actually Costs in Seattle (Broken Down by Tier)

I'll be honest with you, because that's the whole point of this post: newborn photography pricing in Seattle varies wildly, and the price alone won't tell you much unless you know what you're actually paying for.

Budget tier (roughly $150-350): Usually newer photographers building a portfolio, or mini-session style shoots with a much shorter time slot. Can be a lovely option if you want something casual and low-stakes. But you're often getting a rushed session and a smaller handful of images, and less flexibility if baby has a meltdown mid-shoot (because there isn't time built in for that).

Mid-range tier (roughly $400-700): More established photographers, often studio-based, with set posing and props. You'll get a solid, professional gallery. What you're less likely to get is the room to breathe if your session doesn't go according to plan, or full printing rights without an upsell.

Investment tier (roughly $800-1,500+): This is where experienced, specialized newborn photographers live, and it's where I sit. You're paying for expertise, unhurried time, full creative flexibility (real light, real rooms, real life), and a photographer who has genuinely seen it all and isn't rattled by any of it.

I'll say this plainly: if you're purely price shopping, I'm probably not your photographer, and that's okay! But if you want to know why someone might choose the investment tier for something this fleeting, keep reading.

Why Experience Actually Matters Here (More Than You'd Think)

I got into photography 20 years ago shooting weddings, which honestly turned out to be the best training ground imaginable for newborn sessions. Weddings taught me how to work fast, adapt to chaos, and still walk away with beautiful images no matter what the day throws at me, bad lighting, a meltdown, a room that's way too small. There's no "redo" button on a wedding day. There's no redo button on a newborn session either.

I've been photographing newborns specfically for 15 years now, and I've shot over 130 newborn sessions since July 2022 alone. That number isn't a brag, it's actually the point. This is a genuinely vulnerable season. Your baby is only this little once. You want someone in your home who has truly seen it all, not someone who's still figuring it out on your dime.

Here's a real story from a recent session. Baby was having feelings. Mom and dad were doing the classic bounce-and-shush combo while trying to look calm and very much not feeling calm. Totally normal! Mom looked over at me mid-chaos and asked, "Do you do this all the time?" I thought she meant the waiting, so I said, "Yeah, honestly, sometimes, and that's totally okay!" Turns out she meant newborn photography in general. (I do. A lot.) We both laughed. Baby settled. We got the shots.

But my accidental answer was actually the right one either way. I am not watching the clock during your session. I am not stressed when your baby cries or needs to eat or just needs to be held for a minute before we do anything else. Or your toddler needs a snack break. Or YOU need a snack break! That's not an inconvenience, that is the session. Some of the most beautiful images come out of exactly those in-between moments.

I'm also very comfortable with toddlers climbing all over everything and dogs who have opinions about the click of the camera. Sibling energy and pet chaos are not problems to manage around, they're part of the story, and part of what makes your gallery actually feel like your family, not a stock photo.

So, Is It Worth It?

Only you can answer that for your family and your budget. But here's what I tell every client who's on the fence: this is one of the seasons of your baby's life you cannot get back or recreate. You will never again have a photo of them at exactly this size, in exactly this home, with exactly this new-family energy. That's what you're actually paying for when you invest in an experienced newborn photographer, not just a photo, but someone who knows how to protect that memory no matter what the hour throws at you.

If you're due soon or already have a newborn in that magic window, I'd love to capture this season for you! I also make it SUPER easy to book - and you can check out my availability here!

PS: Wondering where the kids faces are? I recently decided to stop sharing identifiable images of kids on Instagram + my blog. If you'd like to see a full gallery - all the types of images you can expect from a session with me - you can head on over here to get an email-protected peek!
