What to Wear to Your Headshot Session

If you’re joining me for an upcoming Headshot Party (or have a brand session on the books!) - first of all, I cannot wait to photograph you. 🎉
Second: let’s talk about what to wear so you walk in feeling confident, comfortable, and like the best version of yourself!

1. Wear What Makes You Feel Like a Bad-Ass

This is my #1 rule.
North City Studio is bright, clean, and primarily white, which means almost any color works beautifully. Neutrals, bold colors, soft tones - if it feels like you, it’ll photograph well.

If you put something on and instantly stand a little taller? That’s the outfit.

2. Think About Where You’ll Use Your Photos

Are these photos going on:

  • Your website?

  • Instagram or LinkedIn?

  • Email marketing or press features?

If so, take a peek at your branding colors and overall vibe. Coordinating your outfit with your brand helps your images feel cohesive and intentional - and saves you from needing new photos again in six months.

3. Skip Tiny Patterns (Trust Me on This One)

I recommend avoiding small repeating patterns like:

  • Gingham

  • Very thin stripes

  • Ribbed or tightly textured fabrics

These can create a digital distortion called moiré, which shows up as weird swirly patterns on camera. Solid colors or larger patterns are always a safer bet.

4. Yes, You Can Bring Props!

Feel free to bring one or two props if they feel authentic to your work:

  • Laptop

  • Camera

  • Notebook

  • Coffee mug

  • Tools of your trade

Think subtle storytelling, not clutter.

5. The Space Matters (and It’s Gorgeous)

We’ll be shooting at North City Studio, which has beautiful natural light and a clean, modern feel - perfect for fresh branding images.

You can check it out here:

Seeing the space ahead of time can help you finalize colors and textures that will really pop.

If you’re ever unsure, bring two outfit options - I’m always happy to help you choose once you arrive!

I’m hosting Headshot Parties at @northcitystudio in Shoreline and you’re invited!

This is the perfect chance to refresh:
• your website “About” photo
• LinkedIn
• social media content
…and do it while mixing + mingling with other creative-preneurs.
