A Peaceful Newborn Session at Home with Baby (and the Family Pup!)

Bringing home your first baby is such a tender, awe-filled season. The pace slows, your world feels smaller, and yet your heart feels so much bigger. During newborn sessions with first-time parents, my focus is always on connection - the quiet bond you’re building with your baby and the love that’s already grown into a family.

For this session, that family also included a very special member: their sweet senior dog, who was just as curious and gentle with the new arrival as mom and dad were. I love when families include their pets — after all, they’ve been your first “baby,” and these moments together are priceless to document.

The Calm of a First Newborn Session

With first-time parents, the energy of the session often feels peaceful and intentional. There’s no rush - just time to soak in the newborn snuggles, stretch out on the couch together, or pause in the nursery to rock baby to sleep. These simple, everyday moments become some of the most meaningful photos you’ll treasure.

Documenting Your Family’s Story

While posed portraits have their place, my favorite images are the ones that capture how it feels: a mom’s hand resting gently on her baby’s chest, dad’s soft smile while cradling the tiniest bundle, and yes - the way your dog curls up close, already protective of their new sibling.

It’s less about “perfectly posed” and more about remembering this first chapter of your story as a family.

What to Expect from Your Newborn Session

Whether your baby is your first, or the newest addition to a busy household, my approach is always the same: relaxed, natural, and family-focused. Sessions are never rushed, and I guide you just enough so you feel comfortable while still leaving space for authentic connection to shine through.

Your newborn session is about documenting your family as it truly is - snuggly, joyful, sometimes sleepy, and always full of love.
